Turkish-Speaking Therapist in New York

Therapy in Turkish (Türkçe Terapi)

Türkçe terapi hakkında / About therapy in Turkish

I offer therapy in both English and Turkish for individuals and partners in New York. My clinical background is in sexuality, relationships, and intercultural dynamics — areas where cultural context and language are especially tightly bound together.

Many of my Turkish-speaking clients are immigrants or expats navigating life between two cultural frameworks, or in relationships where cultural differences around intimacy, family, and gender roles have become a source of friction. Others are simply looking for a therapist who understands the specific cultural landscape they came from — who doesn't need things explained from scratch.

What I work with in Turkish-language sessions

  • Sexual concerns — desire, intimacy, painful sex, performance anxiety, shame around sexuality

  • Desire mismatch and loss of sexual connection between partners

  • Relationship conflict and communication breakdown

  • Intercultural relationship dynamics — including Turkish and non-Turkish partners navigating different expectations

  • Identity and cultural integration — the tension between the culture you grew up in and the one you live in now

  • Non-traditional relationship structures

Cultural context in therapy

Turkish clients — particularly women — often carry cultural messaging around sexuality that is rarely examined directly, and that therapy models developed in Western contexts don't always know how to address. Questions of honor, family expectation, modesty, and what it means to want sexual pleasure can be some of the most loaded material a person brings to therapy, and also some of the most important to work with.

I have published research on this territory, including work on the sexual acculturation of Middle Eastern and Turkish immigrant women. I don't approach it as an outsider.

Intercultural Relationships Involving Turkish Partners

Some partners come from different cultural backgrounds, including Turkish and non-Turkish partners. These relationships can involve differences in communication styles, family expectations and views on intimacy or gender roles.

Therapy can help partners better understand these differences and develop a shared way of relating.

Sex Therapy in Turkish

Discussing sexuality can feel especially difficult across languages. Turkish-speaking sex therapy can help individuals and partners explore desire, intimacy, and communication in a way that feels more natural and culturally grounded.
