Clinical Psychologist | Sex and Relationship Therapist | New York

I'm a clinical psychologist specializing in sexuality, relationships, and cultural identity. I trained at Duke University (B.Sc.) and New York University (Ph.D.), where I also taught psychology for over two decades as an associate adjunct professor (read my NYU profile here). My clinical work is informed by both rigorous research training and a long career at the intersection of psychology, sexuality, and culture — including work as an activist and policy expert on sexual health globally.

But the more honest answer to why I do this work is biographical.

I grew up across multiple countries and cultures, speak four languages, and have spent most of my life navigating between worlds — culturally, linguistically, professionally. That experience of being between things, of holding more than one identity at once and not fully belonging to any single one, is something I recognize immediately in the clients I work with. It's also what drew me to this particular corner of the field, where culture, sexuality, and identity intersect in ways that most therapy models don't adequately address.

What I specialize in

I work with individuals and partners around sexuality, intimacy, desire, and relationship dynamics. My clients are often multicultural in some form — immigrants, expats, third-culture kids, bicultural individuals, intercultural partners — and many also belong to communities whose relationships and sexualities fall outside conventional frameworks: LGBTQIA+ clients, and people in poly, kink, open, or other non-traditional relationship structures. All genders, sexualities, and relationship styles are welcome.

My areas of focus are:

My approach

I draw on a range of evidence-based approaches including Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Gottman Method, attachment-based therapy, CBT, Brainspotting, and somatic and mindfulness-based techniques. I'm also trained in psychedelic therapy and integration.

I pay particular attention to cultural context — not as background detail, but as the actual material of the work. The messages people absorb about sex, relationships, gender, and identity are deeply cultural, often unconscious, and rarely examined. Making them visible is frequently where the most important shifts happen.

I also bring something less common to this work: I'm a long-time practitioner and instructor of tai chi, bagua, and qigong, and a certified Medical Qigong Therapist. This shapes how I think about the body's role in emotional and sexual experience, and I draw on somatic and movement-based approaches with clients when relevant.
